Slab settlement & heave investigation
A floor out of level has three possible stories: the slab settled, reactive clay heaved beneath part of it, or the slab was built that way. Each story leads somewhere different. Level surveys, moisture readings and a look at the site's drainage history separate them before any remediation is priced.

Timing
When it's needed
Sloping or springy floors, tile cracking that follows straight lines, skirting boards lifting off the floor, or a slab edge that has visibly dropped relative to paving. Heave commonly shows after plumbing leaks, redirected stormwater or tree removal changed the moisture balance under the slab.
Sudden large cracks, walls visibly out of plumb, or masonry that sounds hollow and drummy overhead can indicate unstable structure. Keep people away from affected areas, avoid slamming doors in distressed walls, and seek urgent engineering advice rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
