Timing
When it's needed
Bouncy or sloping timber floors, doors racking out of square in pier-supported homes, visible lean in subfloor brickwork, or a pre-purchase report flagging subfloor defects. Wet subfloors deserve the drainage conversation at the same time, decay and pier movement usually share a water source.
Sudden large cracks, walls visibly out of plumb, or masonry that sounds hollow and drummy overhead can indicate unstable structure. Keep people away from affected areas, avoid slamming doors in distressed walls, and seek urgent engineering advice rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
